Junior Internet - chance for young Internet enthusiasts

Junior Internet is a project for young people aged 18 and less, who are actively interested in Internet. It takes place in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia and its aim is to support talented and active young people and contribute to their personal and professional development. Youngsters can register with their web pages, Internet projects and texts about Internet into the Internet competitions. All of them will then be invited to a conference, where a programme full of lectures, presentations, discussions and competitions will be prepared for them. Winners will receive valuable prizes and above all the possibility of presenting their projects to the public. The project has been taking place in the Czech Republic for already 7 years, but since 2006 also young people from Hungary, Poland and Slovakia can join. The whole project is being organised by young people themelves.

World Summit Youth Award

The “World Summit Youth Award” is a global initiative within the United Nations that has three pillars of interest which are YOUTH, ICT and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). By holding a contest for best Internet contents we will put on stage young innovative people who create inspiring Web Content or Mobile applications to promote the MDGs and pursue an end to hunger, disease and injustice and fight for the environment, gender equality and a future for all.

Young people can register to the competition until February 28, 2009. The winners will take part in a Gala Event and Winners Conference in Mexico. You can find more information in attached PDF file.

Junior Internet winners at the International Symposium in Wroclaw

From 18 to 20 April 2008, Wroclaw hosted the Junior Internet International Symposium. The event brought together around 30 talented young winners of the Junior Internet competitions from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. They had a chance to present their projects to each other, exchange their experience, gain new contacts and start new international co-operation. There were also several presentation prepared and the winners took part in the Polish national Junior Internet conference as well.

JuniorErb winners at the ISSS/LORIS/V4DIS conference

In 2008, the JuniorErb competition for web sites of cities, municipalities and regions created by young people was organised in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. The winners from the whole Visegrad region were invited to the ISSS/LORIS/V4DIS conference in Hradec Kralove on 7-8 April 2008 to present their projects. The conference is a prestigious event bringing together every year more than 2000 representatives of politics and public administration from the Czech Republic, the Visegrad region and the whole Europe to discuss about the issues of information society. The JuniorErb competition took place under patronage of the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Mr. Premysl Sobotka.

Conferences in Prague and Bratislava successful

The Slovak Junior Internet conference took place on 14 and 15 March 2008 in Hotel Baronka, Bratislava. Authors of the 260 registered projects were invited to the conference. Participants got the chance to present their projects in front of other young people and IT experts and the jury finally chose the winners.

The conference in Prague took place on 29 March 2008, already for the 9th time. The participants got acquanted not only with the project of the Junior Internet winners, but also heard many interesting lectures, discussions and participated in competitions. Accompanying exhibition of Internet projects was prepared for the first time.

More than 600 applications to the Junior Internet competitions

More than 600 young people entered the Junior Internet competitions in 2008 with their Internet projects, web sites, web designs and essays about Internet. In the Czech Republic, 305 young people registered to one of the 6 open competitions. The organisers in Slovakia received 260 applications from talented young people and in Poland 68 participants registered their projects.

Prime Minister of the Czech Republic took patronage over Junior Internet

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Mr. Mirek Topolanek, accorded his patronage to the Junior Internet project in 2008. Mr. Topolanek supports talented young people in the Czech Republic as well as in other Visegrad countries. It si great honour for us to receive the patronage.

Junior Internet conference in Prague was a success

Almost 200 young people took part in the Junior Internet conference in Prague on 3 March 2007. The results of the Internet competitions were announced and the winners had an opportunity to present their projects to the public. There were also many other interesting lectures, presentations of successful projects and discussions prepared. The afternoon session was divided in two parts. The Minister of Informatics of the Czech Republic, Ivan Langer, opened the conference and awarded one of the projects by his own prize. Information about the conference was also in the main TV news of the Czech TV.

276 participants of the Internet competitions in the Czech Republic

On 8 February 2007, young people in the Czech Republic had the last chance to enter one of the three Junior Internet competitions. This year, three competitions took place - JuniorText, JuniorWeb and JuniorDesign. Organisers got totally 276 applications. The jury composed of young organisers, previous winners and professional IT experts will now choose the winners of the competitions. They will be announced at the conference in Prague on 3 March 2007.
